About Dr. Frank Mastandrea
COMPASSIONATE, SKILLFUL, AND PROFESSIONAL

Dr. Mastandrea grew up in the Tampa Bay area, leaving briefly to attend school in Missouri. His commitment to excellence has been demonstrated throughout his life as a student, doctor, and as a person.

Dr. Mastandrea graduated from Saint Louis University Cum Laude and earned the honor of receiving the Alpha Sigma Nu award. As a doctor, Dr. Mastandrea has participated in writing several publications. He was also a laparoscopy instructor for post graduate medical education, teaching lymph node dissections, nephrectomies, and partial cystectomies. In addition, Dr. Mastandrea helped devise protocols for new procedures being performed at H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center.

Robotic assisted laparoscopic surgery is a new surgical method that offers patients many advantages over traditional open surgery. Dr. Mastandrea’s interest in the Da Vinci Robot has now developed into a passion. He completed Da Vinci training in 2002 and is one of the few doctors in the United States who is experienced using robotic laparoscopic surgery to perform prostatectomies. In fact, he helped implement the Urological surgical robotic program that exists at St. Joseph’s hospital today. The advantages of robotic surgery are such that men from around the country, and even from around the world, fly into Tampa to have their operations performed by Dr. Mastandrea.

Dr. Mastadrea is a husband and father of two sons, one of which is a very chubby baby! When time permits, he enjoys jogging, playing beach volleyball, scuba diving, and spending time with family and friends. In his more robust years, he also successfully conquered a marathon.
